Amazon.com Product Description Share your music while on the road with the Harman JBL on Tour portable speaker system, which features an integrated protective cover that slides open to reveal a pair of full-range speakers. The slightly curved chassis measures 7 by 1.4 by 3.5 inches (W x H x D) when closed. When open, the cover shifts focus to serve as a stand, pointing the speakers upward to produce optimal sound on a flat surface. The system is compatible with most portable audio players thanks to its stereo mini-jack connection, which hooks up to such devices as the iPod, iPod mini, and a variety of other MP3 players, CD players, desktop computers, and laptops. The JBL on Tour is also easy to control, with a touch volume pad that both manages the volume and mutes the sound when desired. The speakers also remember the previous volume setting once the system shuts down. Unlike many portable speaker systems, the JBL on Tour prides itself on its steady bass and clear, accurate audio. The device employs Harman's digital amplifier technology and Odyssey aluminum-domed transducers to deliver a full, rich frequency response that extends from low bass notes to high-end tones. In addition, the system uses computer-optimized equalization to improve the soundstage and an advanced energy management system that keeps the unit from wasting battery power during use. Additional features include gripping rubber feet below the speakers, an audio input cable, and a universal AC adapter. When used as a portable system, the JBL on Tour provides more than 24 hours of continuous play on four AAA batteries. The device also includes a low battery alert. nice little LOUD device November 6, 2008 yoshi (california) First and foremost, I love the sound of this piece. It really kicks up the sound up a notch when you plug in your mp3 player, computer or what not. Sound is crisp and clear and I have no problem with the delivery or performance of sound. Now the nitpicky stufff. The cover slides way too easily, sometimes sliding the speaker close half way. I also wish there was some kind of an attachment to stand the mp3 player on top of. The cords can also get a little tangled up, but that's the nature of any speakers with wires I suppose. I really, really hoped it came with an on/off switch or button, because otherwise, you pretty much would have to unplug the device to power off. That's my biggest gripe. Aside from that, if you want quality sound, you can't lose with this product. That almost makes me forget all the design flaws with the product. Almost.
Lil' guy sounds great! February 22, 2008 Markinho (Denver) Buy this if you want an extremely portable speaker system that sounds good at most ranges and loud volumes.
Very Good for Their Size January 12, 2008 William Bagley (Ashland, Oregon) I like the JBLs a lot. They make a very good on the road portable. The protective shell slides over the speakers. The little speakers kick out very good sound for their size and are only slightly weak in terms of their bass sound. They run well on batteries and do not drain them too quickly. They plug in easily to anything with a headphone jack. The weakness are: (1)with all the brilliant design, they do not have an off button, this means that you cannot use it as a computer speaker without unplugging it and replugging it or having a blinking light that tells you that it is not in use,(2) if you up the volume to max on both your MP3 and the JBL at the same time, you could hurt the speakers, so it is good to adjust the volume cautiously, (3) the low volume indicator is not always reliable and can reflect temporary volume surges in a piece, and (4)it may sound very distorted, which means that you have to make sure that it is plugged in all the way and firmly (that solves it). I did artfully combine the JBL with a subwoofer and found the sound was wonderful.
Nifty little speakers January 8, 2008 Traveller DB (Mumbai, India) Have owned these for almost a year. Ideal for road warriors who want to unwind in hotel room after a busy day. Decent quality of sound that is good enough for a small room. Form factor and 4 AAA battery operation make it truly portable.
Works Well with iPod and Computer December 24, 2007 technojerry (Ridgecrest, CA United States) I purchased this unit in white a couple of years ago. It works very will with my iPod when I am on travel or vacation. It works off of 4 AAA batteries. I use rechargeable batteries that easily last a single trip or more. Possibly longer if I used the new Sanfo Eneloop batteries that don't loose a charge in storage as fast. You use the included male to male 1/8" jack cable to connect it to you audio device. I play my iPod in the morning or evening in the hotel room. If you put the iPod to sleep, the unit will go into standby mode to be ready to play audio if you use your iPod as an alarm. The only issue is that the power light flashes in standby mode and it is powerful enough to light up the ceiling of the hotel room. The unit is small enough for your checked bag and load enough to be enjoyable without distributing your neighbors. The unit slides over to cover the speakers when transporting and the cable must to removed to close the lid. The enclosed soft bag holds the speakers and the cable. I like the sound quality and loudness and only knock it down to 4 stars because of the flashing light and the cord storage issue. I would recommend it to anymore that travels and wants to turn any MP3 device into a small stereo.
