1 out of 5 stars Not good at all. Unless you hate bass and good sound   September 9, 2010
nickjs
I recently purchased the J3 headphones from amazon based on the overwhelmingly positive ratings for the headphones in that price range. I received them today, and I am very unsatisfied by the audio quality.

These are -- and I say this with no exaggeration -- some of the muddiest, ugliest sounding noises I've ever heard. The sounds I'm hearing from songs I intimately know sound foreign. The low end bass is non-existent. The mid-level bass is just almost there. The middle range is completely muddy, and the high end is through the roof. On wonderfully mastered songs, what you end up with is a tinny -- yet somehow muffled -- song with almost inaudible vocals and indistinguishable tracks of instruments blending into this ugly, ugly mix. It sounds like having a laptop speaker funneled right into my ear.

I can see where this type of mix would work perfectly -- acoustic, country, audiobook, spoken word. But for anything where you want to hear each layered instrumental track, this would be impossible.

I sent an email to JLab before posting this review, and the reply was a form letter email asking me to let the headphones "burn-in". I followed their process and nothing changed.

Save yourself the aggravation I went through.

2 out of 5 stars Dissatisfied   September 8, 2010

The earphones construction feels very solid but looks can be deceiving. After using them a handful of times the left ear is starting to go out. I've taken great care of these earphones and have not put them under any stress. This can only mean the quality of these earphones is lacking. For the money these earphones do give great sounds, however the longevity is disappointing. If you are looking for earphones that will last you awhile, you should look elsewhere.

4 out of 5 stars Great for the price.   September 8, 2010

I thought it was odd that the company suggests you to "break-in" the drivers of the earphones for 24 hrs before you use them. But, I did. My 16 yr old son thinks they are awesome and he is using them with his ipod touch.
For me, I felt the are a bit fragile...the wires are very thin and I'm not sure they will hold up to everyday use for too long. As I tested the earphones, I was searching for an indicator as to which is left and right side of earphones. The left earphone has the smallest "L" on the side where the wire enters the earphone.
Also, beware that when the earphones are inserted for use it blocks the surrounding sounds, which could be dangerous. Otherwise, for the money you can give them a shot to see if you like them.

1 out of 5 stars fool me once...   September 7, 2010

Bought this item in late July. It's now early September and one of the buds no longer puts out any sound.

Great, just great. Up until it died on me, I was pretty happy with it. Too bad it's a piece of crap.

1 out of 5 stars Bought in March, Dead in September   September 7, 2010

A little over a summer of use and the left earbud goes mute. I had the j1 and they lasted much longer. Disappointing to say the least.
